Delicious Allstars – Cobra dub/Paperboy (Skyline)
Released: 24/01/2009
This is a solid piece of of groovy reggae – on both sides of this 7″. “Cobra dub” is bouncy, it is melodic and it is cheerful. On the flip ”Paper boy” is amazingly a reggae cover version of the classic nintendo game “Paper boy” – check it out and see if you can recognize any resemblance on YouTube!
In any case, no matter where the artist got the inspiration – the results are as wicked as it is funny. If this ain’t getting you in the right frame of mind for some late night groovin’…The slow bass, tripping piano and and the horns of the main melody makes in an instant classic.

Mr Day & The Dynamics – Tears of Joy (Favorite)
Released: 05/12/2008
Produced by the magnificent Patchworks, Mr Day returns with a new song from his next album. “Tears of joy” is a sweet, soulful song that might just have charted in the 70s, but these days I guess it is up to the vinyl junkies and genuine music lovers to make sure a wider audience get the message.
As if the original weren’t’ enough, Mr Day invites The Dynamics to interpret the song. ”Tears Of Joy” became part of the bands repertoire when they had their first gigs, and they created their own version of the song. As expected, it is down reggae avenue, and definitively adds something special to this 7″.
I have a lot of respect for Patchworks. Every track he touches, regardless of genre or starting point, ends up being something special. I guess that is one of the characteristics of a good producer, having a wide horizon and being able to interpret it through your own vision of how music should be. His live band The Dynamics is a true example of this.

Bost & Bim – Jamaican Boy (BBO)
Released: 14/08/2008
Another huge cover from french riddim makers, dj’s and producers Matthieu Bost & Jérémie “BIM” Dessus aka The Bombist! Together with Californian singer Brisa Roché and Dj Lone Ranger they have made a Jamaican take on Estelle and Kanye West’s “American Boy“.
I loved the original as well, a fresh breath of soulful and happy hiphop. However, this adds the Jamaican feel and that pleasant surprise element that makes it go down well on the dancefloor. Apparently this time they are proud to present their first “official” release. This one is pressed in limited numbers, so get your copy asap. The song also appeared on Nova Tunes 1.8. Listen here!

7 Samurai – Jah Music [Poets club]
Released: July 2008
Just back from visit in Manchester, and obviously I picked up a few gems at the Fat City Record store. On this limited 7″ 7 Samurai covers Inner Circle’s 70′s classic. You probably know some of his released on G.A.M.M, and the releases is usually worth the money. The vocal’s are great and provided with the downtempo soul vibe and a slightly tougher beats on the flip side, references to Minnie Ripperton is not to far off. The vocalist is Gilles Peterson favorite Alicia Smith, an artist that also has provided Jamiroquai with quality backing vocals.
